Advanced Salsa Workshop - FAQs
August 24, MON 7-8pm, Island Health in Cayuga Heights

• What will we be learning?
The focus will be on fun and challenging (for both partners) Salsa moves
that are unusual for the Ithaca area and Central NY area:
complex wraps, unusual ducks, and so forth.
Each pattern is 48 to 64 beats in length (6 to 8 counts of 8).

• How challenging will this be?
If you consider yourself an intermediate to advanced dancer,
expect to be challenged - the moves are not easy, but it will not be insanely difficult.
Advanced for Ithaca, and Advanced for NYC are two very different animals.

• Will it be fun for followers as well?
We chose these moves together - they looked fun to both of us as dance partners.
We know a lot of patterns, and these are definitely fun and "out of the box."

• Will there be dangerous moves like throws and lifts?
No, we are not completely mad, just partially.

• Will there be any cool dips, with styling for the women?
We will show you some unusual cool dips, and if there is group consensus,
then we will teach them.

• Will there be fancy footwork?
The workshop is about partner patterns, not shines.

• Will there be hand pop patterns?
We will show a hand pop sequence, but we will only teach it if people are interested.

• Will there be any intimate, nasty stuff, like we see in the Salsa Congresses?
Sigh. No, that is a different workshop.

• Will this be L.A. on 1, Cuban, NY on 2, or what style?
The patterns are definitely modern Cuban in origin,
but we will teach the most common Ithaca-Syracuse-Binghamton style: L.A. on 1.
We will show the same patterns in Cuban style also.

• Suppose this is too easy for me?
Money back: If it is too easy for you, and you are not challenged enough,
just raise your hand and say so within the first 20 minutes of the workshop.
We will happily give you your money back immediately.

• Suppose this is too hard for me?
Welcome to learning anything new in a dance class. Stick with it. You may not get it today,
but if it looks interesting, over weeks or months or years, you will get it.

• Will we have time to play with these moves,
or will the time just be highly controlled by the instructor?

In order to integrate this material into your dancing,
you need time to play with it, and to work things out with your partner.
There will be plenty of great music.

• Why do we need partners to enroll?
It would be good to have an even ratio: no one waiting around for rotation.
If you start with someone you are comfortable with, the moves will be more accessible.

• Do we have to rotate partners?
Rotation is not required, although we encourage rotation,
since you will be meeting the same people on the dance floor.

• Will I be able to lead any newbie on the club floor in these moves?
Advanced moves require an advanced partner.

• What kind of clothes, shoes should we wear?
An advanced level dancer would not ask this question (we still love you).

• Will it be fun?
Clearly you have taken many other teacher's classes.
Yes, we very much believe in fun. We are playful, amusing instructors,
and we love to laugh, to teach creatively, and to have a good time.
